The Manitoba Rowing Association has purchased two double coastal boats from Trireme in Montreal. These boats made the trip from France in July and landed in Pinawa, Manitoba on July 16, 2021. The purchase of these coastal boats was made possible by the 2017 Canada Games Legacy Grant.

Coastal Rowing is rapidly growing in interest and participation and is expected to be a sport in the 2028 Olympic Games. The MRA is excited to get into Coastal Rowing in the relatively early stages of introduction in Canada.

Having these boats will be a fantastic training opportunity for our High Performance athletes and an exciting and new experience for all MRA members. Recreational, competitive and masters athletes alike will all be able to try out the new boats as they will be travelling to each MRA club for a few weeks this summer. Looking forward, coastal rowing will be a terrific promotional tool for attracting attention and new members due to its unique and adventurous appeal.
